Data Engineer: Apache Airflow and Platform Enablement, Fully Remote EU-wide

Our partner, an international technology consultancy, is growing its data team for a large enterprise client.

📍 Location: Fully Remote – EU
🕗 Schedule: Full-time, employment or B2B contract
🏢 Department: Data & Platform Engineering
📈 Reports to: Project Owner, Data Engineering Lead, Client Stakeholders, C-Suite

About the Role

This is hands-on Airflow engineering with a client-facing edge.

You will join a project focused on helping data engineering teams adopt, integrate and operate Apache Airflow inside their existing technology ecosystems. That means designing and troubleshooting DAGs, connecting Airflow to real data platforms, and getting workloads safely into production.

It is not a build-and-hand-over role, and it is not a support desk. It sits between the two.

If you enjoy solving hard technical problems and enjoy the moment another team finally gets something working because of you, this will suit you. If you would rather build in isolation, it will not, and that is worth knowing before you apply.

What You’ll Do

  • Hands-on Airflow work: configuration, DAG development, scheduling, dependencies and troubleshooting.
  • Technical advisory: guide customer data engineering teams on Airflow best practice across different technology stacks.
  • Integration: connect Airflow with existing data ecosystems, cloud data warehouses, transformation tools and Infrastructure as Code setups.
  • Production onboarding: support teams through initial platform adoption and the transition into live environments.
  • Complex troubleshooting: diagnose Airflow and distributed systems issues and steer teams toward stable, reliable solutions.
  • Operational support: scheduling, dependencies, failures and production workloads.
  • Enablement and knowledge sharing: deliver technical guidance to customer engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with the project owner on scope, priorities and delivery.
  • Contribute documentation and reusable technical guidance for common Airflow use cases.
  • Work independently in a remote, distributed environment.

What You Bring

  • Airflow depth: strong hands-on experience — DAG development, scheduling, dependencies and operational concepts.
  • Python: professional, production-level experience.
  • Platform background: commercial experience with data engineering platforms or data infrastructure.
  • Client-facing experience: consulting, advisory, support, solutions engineering or technical enablement — any context where you helped an external team succeed.
  • Troubleshooting: genuine strength with distributed systems and live production environments.
  • Translation skills: the ability to take a complex technical issue and turn it into a practical solution someone else can apply.
  • Communication and customer empathy, particularly when training or supporting other engineers.
  • Ownership: able to work independently and take responsibility for technical issues end to end.
  • Remote maturity: demonstrated success in distributed international teams.
  • Kubernetes and containerised environments — practical understanding.
  • Managed cloud services experience.
  • One modern data stack: Snowflake, dbt or Terraform.
  • Ability to learn new platforms and internal tooling quickly.
*Required: the right to work from within the European Union.

Advantageous:

  • Administering Apache Airflow in production
  • Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
  • SQL and analytical data workflows
  • Background in technical support, Site Reliability Engineering or platform engineering
  • Enterprise customers during onboarding, migration or platform adoption
  • Integrating Airflow with cloud data warehouses or modern data tooling
  • Delivering technical workshops or enablement sessions

Why Join Our Client

  • 100% remote. Fully distributed across Europe, not remote-first with an office expectation.
  • Trust over micromanagement. Senior engineers are treated as senior engineers.
  • Visible expertise. Their engineers speak at conferences, publish, and run internal academies. Technical reputation is built here, not hidden.
  • Knowledge sharing is a stated value
  • Enterprise-scale work with a strong engineering culture and a consulting mindset.
  • Flexible engagement: permanent employment or B2B contract, whichever suits you.
